Chael Sonnen has come across as one of the most spectacular boxers of this era with his dynamic first round win against Mauricio Rua. USA Today reported on Aug. 17, 2013, Sonnen submited Rua in the first round. In his victory over Rua on Saturday night Sonnen proved how quickly he can finish fights.
Sonnen locked up a guillotine choke on Rua late in the opening round, beating the former UFC light heavyweight champion at the 4:47 mark of Round 1. This action filled light heavyweight bout headlined Saturday's UFC Fight Night 26 event at Boston's TD Garden.
Sonnen's trademark style was apparent early as he didn't waste time diving for the take down and putting Shogun down hard on the mat in the opening seconds of the bout. In the final minute of the round Sonnen locked up the guillotine choke and finished it from his back, which left his Brazilian opponent with no escape route.
Boston.com reported Chael Sonnen snapped a two-fight losing streak with a first-round victory over Mauricio ‘‘Shogun’’ Rua. The intense and short fight was the main event of the debut of the UFC Fight Night Series on Fox Sports 1.
