The Collection: Futuristic luxury was the theme at Ralph Rucci’s Fall 2013 show on Sunday night, with silhouettes of both streamlined and voluminous proportions and bright pops of color in violet, shocking pink, chartreuse and acid yellow that accented a mostly black collection. Rucci’s legendary couture precision and intricate detailing could be seen throughout the collection with delicate tulle cutouts, carefully placed feathers and the use of innovative fabrics such as cashmere bonded from neoprene from an exclusive Italian mill.
The Front Row: Martha Stewart, a front row fixture at the Ralph Rucci shows was seen chatting with NYT fashion photographer Bill Cunningham, comedienne Sandra Bernhard, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo and J. Alexander were also spotted front row.
The Analysis: Meticulously made pieces for only the ladies with the deepest of pockets. Rucci’s collection consists of items that should be passed down from one generation to the next. The quality, the precision, the graceful yet modernity of the designs, I was in love! Some stand-out pieces were the shimmering black faux fur coat of Chewbacca proportions over a violet silk sheath dress with an overlay of delicate French lace, a glistening violet lace “pajama” outfit and a black knitted paillette cocktail dress accented with feathers. Now if I could just find an extra 6k+ to buy that faux fur coat…
