Chad Mendes is ready for his WEC debut

Chad Mendes became a professional MMA fighter about 1 ½ years ago and has already made a big enough impression on the sport to get a contract with the WEC. Mendes (5-0, 0-0 WEC) will take on fellow undefeated prospect Eric Koch (8-0. 1-0 WEC) at WEC 47 on March 6th.

Despite his fast rise, Mendes is ready for the WEC and has been preparing for this since he became a pro. According to MMAJunkie.com, Chad had the following to say about joining the WEC:

"I've been wanting to get in the WEC ever since I decided I wanted to start fighting. It's pretty much the top for us lighter-weight guys, and to be here with only five fights is, in my mind, a great accomplishment.”

Mendes trains with the famed Team Alpha Male out of Sacramento, CA. Mendes has become a protégé of Urijah Faber who heads the team. Mendes has a strong background in wrestling but is coming off a serious hand injury from his fight last October. Mendes broke his hand and had to have 8 screws put in his hand.

All accounts point to Mendes being fully healed and ready to go for his WEC debut, which he is really excited for.

"I go through a whole camp of killing myself, and I look forward every single day to just getting in there and fighting my opponent. So when that time finally comes, it's like a little kid waiting for Christmas. You're so excited. It's been hard to sleep the last couple of weeks before your fight because you're so pumped. I lay in bed, and I catch myself going over positions in my mind. My body's real tight, and I'm clinching my fists. I have to tell myself to calm down because I'm so excited about it."
