Yep.  You read it correctly.  The Smurfs have been CGIed.

Those loveable little blue creatures from our youth are coming back.  On the big screen, of all places!

The Smurfs will be a feature-length film -- due to hit  theaters December 17, 2010.

"The Smurfs" ran on NBC on Saturday Mornings from 1981 through 1990.  Sony will be releasing the flick and they've got a director and even writers signed up.

ComingSoon.net reports that the picture to the right ran in a magazine, advertising the 2010 release.

Will you see the Smurfs in the theater?  Gargamel in CGI would be seriously scary.
