Yoenis Cespedes could have a new team very soon. The Cuban defector will travel to the US next week and begin the free agent process. Initial reports are that he will meet with the Miami Marlins first before moving along to other clubs with interest like the Chicago Cubs/White Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
The Marlins have a glut of talent in the outfield and signing Cespedes would mean that he will either share time in center with Emilio Bonifacio or that Omar Infante will be out of job when Bonifacio shifts to second base. While Florida at least has options, the inn seems full on the Southside of Chicago. The Sox are content with an outfield of De Aza/Rios/Viciedo, which means that Yoenis would only be in a timeshare at DH with Adam Dunn.
If the 26-year-old wants to play right away, his best chance might be in Baltimore. Centerfield appears to be locked-up after Adam Jones hit .280 with 25 homeruns last season, but the Orioles currently have Endy Chavez penciled in as their opening day leftfielder. Nolan Reimold will certainly push for some at-bats here, but if Cespedes has any sort of a spring training he should be able to win that job with little trouble.
