CES 2013

Well, here we are on the first day of the second week of 2013! And if that isn't exciting enough for you, (what, that new pencil case that the boss gave you for Christmas didn't put you over the top?), it's also the first day of the 2013 Consumer and Electronics show, (CES), taking place in our favorite city of sin.....yes! Las Vegas!

Still not exactly jumping out of your seat? Well this year's show is going to be the biggest ever, covering a total floor space of 1.9 MILLION square feet!

It may be necessary to pack a bag of survival items just in case you get lost or even worse, find yourself in a booth with the "Lone Gunmen".

Hey, ya never know right? There are going to be a ton of celebrities manning booths this year. Everyone from L.L. Cool Jay, who will be interviewed by CNET concerning the new Boomdizzle Liquid MyConnect Studio app, to actor and former Rap star Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson who will be in the SMS Audio booth, to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Oz, Arianna Huffington (love her), Deepak Chopra, Russell Simmons, Rohan Marley, and a whole list of others that promise to make this year's CES as entertaining as it is awesome.

Not only that, but the social promotions will be off the hook! Stay on top of everything that's happening with connections through Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Instagram!

I can't wait to see some of the hottest new tech to be unveiled! And I have to toot my own horn a bit here because several months ago I did a review on the Samsung Galaxy Note which, for those of you who don't know, is basically a mini tablet sized smartphone. I loved it! I thought the larger screen size, processor and display capabilities made internet activities so much more enjoyable than on a conventional sized phone. And then, it was also a phone!

Many critics were down on it saying that it was too cumbersome to be carried and used as a phone and they didn't really see the advantage.

Well, as it turns out, check out this excerpt from a recent Reuters article covering the CES:

"Call it phablet, phonelet, tweener or super smartphone, but the clunky mobile phone - closer in size to a tablet than the smartphone of a couple of years back - is here to stay. A surprise hit of 2012, it is drawing in more users, more handset makers and is shaping the way we consume content.

'We expect 2013 to be the Year of the Phablet,' said Neil Mawston, UK-based executive director of Strategy Analytics' global wireless practice.

While Samsung Electronics has blazed a trail with its once-mocked Galaxy Note devices, now other manufacturers are scurrying to catch up. At this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Chinese telecommunications giants ZTE and Huawei Technologies are showing off their own."

Ha! Personally, I prefer the word "smart-tab" but I thought it was a great idea then and I agree now, so let's just see how these new devices are received.

Hey, it may be the doldrums of January but if you like tech, this is exciting! So hang on to your hats....more news to come.
