Sometime within the next hour or two, the new Chicken.Org restaurant will open for business at 534 South 4th Street (southwest corner of 4th and South Streets).
The restaurant, which will feature organic meat, is owned by Israelis Eyal Aranya and Yoni Nadav, who opened Burgers.org at 326 South Street earlier this year.
Not only is the chicken at Chicken.Org organic, it will be certified kosher by Community Kashrus of Greater Philadelphia, with supervision by Rabbi Dov A. Brisman of Elkins Park
It should be noted that Aranya's comment to City Paper that "we chose to make it glatt kosher" should not be taken too seriously. (Only meat from mammals can be "glatt kosher.") However, Aranya's and Nadav's organic Burgers.org will soon reopen as glatt kosher.
The hours for Chicken.org are 11 am-8 PM Sundays through Thursdays and 11 am-4 pm (late spring/summer/early fall)/2 pm (late fall/winter/early spring) on Fridays. The restaurant offers catering. As for the menu:
Sandwiches offered (available on french baguette or pita bread), all for $7.95, are fried chicken (schnitzel), chicken meatball, grilled chicken and roast turkey.
Chicken wings (available as fried, grilled, buffalo, and honey & sesame) are offered in quanties of 5 ($5.99), 10 ($9.99), 15 ($13.99) and 20 ($17.99).
The homemade hot side dishes available, for $5.99, are mashed potatoes, fresh steamed vegetables, rice, sweet corn, roasted sweet potato, spaghetti with red sauce, green beans and baked potato. Gravy is available for $2.99.
The homemade cold side dishes available, for $5.99/large and $3.99/medium, are hummus, babaganoush, eggplant salad, red cabbage salad, Israeli salad, coleslaw and egg salad
A variety of individual and family meals are available.
Although he has not yet been in a position to create an opinion about the quality of the food at Chicken.org, Philadelphia Jewish Culture Examiner was disappointed to discover that chicken liver is not on the menu.

Philadelphia Jewish Culture Examiner, Adam Taxin, is quite familiar with chicken, having qualified twice to be a contestant in 610 WIP's annual Wing Bowl, which ESPN has described as "the worst event ever." ("We sent Jim Caple to cover the Wing Bowl. He barely survived this disgusting display of humanity at its worst.")
