Certifiably Green Denver gives the power of green to businesses

Without a doubt, there is a push to go green. Some of us make efforts to do it on our own by reducing our consumption and waste streams. Others need a little more help to go in the right direction. Lately, that help has come to Denver in a new civic program.

In partnership with the City’s Department of Environmental health, “Certifiably Green Denver” is positioned to promote companies that are practicing sustainable measures and encourage other businesses to get on board with “being green.”

After meeting specific requirements, businesses who make the cut will receive a window decal that showcases their commitment to sustainable practices. The presence of the decal will inform consumers on where the business stands and may help them make better commerce decisions.

With any luck, the peer pressure will encourage other businesses to take the green route.  In the long run this will reduce energy demands, waste streams, and other elements of running a business that are heavy on the environment.

The ultimate goal is to brand Denver as a city which is genuinely concerned with the environmental and sustainable practices of its own residents and businesses. Between our aptitude for outdoor activity and the collection of local, environmentally-minded businesses setting up shop in town, it shouldn’t be a difficult goal to hit.
