Cereal recall codes: 28 million boxes of Kellogg's Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Honey Smacks

Smelly and off-flavor breakfast cereals are being recalled by Kellogg Company and the U.S.FDA. While the potential for serious health problems is low, some sensitive consumers may experience temporary symptoms, including nausea and diarrhea.

The voluntary recall for 4 popular breakfast cereals including Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, and Honey Smacks, is due to the "uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell" coming from the liner in the package. The 2010 cereal recall affects 28 million boxes.

David Mackay, president and chief executive officer, Kellogg Company offered a sincere apology saying, "We apologize to our consumers and our customers and are working diligently to ensure that the affected products are rapidly removed from the marketplace."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 25, 2010 - Battle Creek, Michigan: Only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date are included in the recall. Products with a "KM" designation are NOT included in the recall. In addition, no products in Canada are affected. No other Kellogg's products are part of this recall. The recalled products were distributed nationwide.

Local consumers from the Burlington, Vermont area would have purchased these products from major supermarkets such as Shaw's, Price Chopper, and Hannafords. Burlington consumers who have questions, or would like replacement products, are encouraged to contact the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-801-4163 from 8:00am to 8:00pm Eastern time.
