The Buffalo Bills have announced Owner Ralph Wilson Jr. has turned over full control over the team’s operations to CEO/President Russ Brandon.
Wilson praised Brandon as a leader, saying, “Russ is a proven leader and he will now have full authority over the entire Buffalo Bills operation. I have granted him full autonomy to run the organization as he feels is best.”
During yesterday’s press conference, Brandon said it was an emotional meeting with Wilson, who Brandon called a “father figure.”
“He told me he was passing the torch to me to run this franchise in totality,” Brandon said. “He has granted me full authority to run this franchise with zero restrictions and zero limitations.”
Brandon said his main goal is to set up a football analytics operation, but drafting and signing players will still be under the jurisdiction of General Manager Buddy Nix, who will return in the same position.
“I will not be drafting people. I will not be making the final decision on a free agent. I will empower the general manager, Buddy Nix, to do that,” said Brandon. “He identifies personnel. He runs that side of our operation… I cannot be any clearer than that.”
The first priority for the Bills is to find a new coach after firing Chan Gailey earlier this week. The search will be a team effort, but Nix will be leading the team, said Brandon.
