The popular tournament series offers a unique format, with all doubles partners -- entering at a cost of $30 per team -- having combined ages that total 100 or more as of the time of bowling. Each team will roll three handicap (90 percent of 220) games.
The $30 fee breakdown consists of $12 for lineage, $14 into the prize fund and $4 earmarked for the Sarasota-Manatee Youth Scholarship Fund.
As an optional feature, an Alibi Doubles competition -- at a cost of $10, or $5 per bowler -- gives each entrant the opportunity to combine their own scores with scores bowled by other tournament entrants.
Pre-entries are requested, but walk-ins will be accepted, provided that walk-ins register at least 45 minutes prior to the 2 p.m. start.
The season-opener will also feature a special raffle, in which the winner will receive a football autographed by well-known television basketball commentator Dick Vitale, and the ball includes a photo of Vitale along with Lou Holtz, a former Notre Dame football coach. The football is displayed in a case and comes with an autographed book. Raffle tickets are $5 each, and you can get them by contacting Sandy Combs prior to or on the day of the event, but there is a limited supply. Her e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org
Three additional Century Doubles events are scheduled for the 2013-2014 season, and they will be held at 2 p.m. on the following dates: Dec. 8 at Sarasota Lanes; March 16 at Treasure Lanes in Port Charlotte; and May 18 at AMF Gulf Gate Lanes.
