One of Des Moines' top restaurants is closing for repairs and one of the Metro's malls will be getting a new restaurant, microbrewery, and movie theater. Here are the details.
Centro, located at 1007 Locust Street in Downtown Des Moines, will be closing its doors for a few days starting tomorrow. The restaurant made the announcement around lunchtime today via their Facebook account that they would be closed for kitchen repairs (mainly to their coal-fired brick pizza oven) for a large part of next week. Here are the restaurant's hours for the next few days:
February 2: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
February 3 - 6: Closed
February 7: 5 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Also in the news, Merle Hay Mall will soon be adding a new restaurant, microbrewery, and movie theater—all in one place. Flix Brewhouse is building a $12 million combination 8-plex cinema and dine-in microbrewery in the mall's middle section. The brewery/restaurant will feature a menu that includes appetizers, pizzas, salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts, and 12 housemade microbrews. The entrees will be primarily Tex-Mex, Cajun, and Italian, serving favorites like Blackened Tilapia, Creole Shrimp Po' Boys, Fajita Street Tacos, Ravioli Bolognese, and Margherita Pizza. The theaters will show first-run movies. The Brewhouse will also be hosting tasting seminars and a pro-am homebrew competition for charity. The whole complex is expected to be finished by late summer or early fall.
