Fans were asked to put their ‘twerk’ aside as the Soul Train Awards 2013, hosted by Anthony Anderson, brought an incredible production featuring the best of today’s R&B and soul, an emotional all-star tribute to legendary Dionne Warwick, all wrapped up with an entertaining 90s themed performance led by Doug E Fresh, Slick Rick and Big Daddy Kane.

The tone was set with Jennifer Hudson's high-energy opening performance of her new single, ‘I Can’t Describe The Way I Feel,’ creatively joined by Chaka Khan, T.I., and Evelyn King. It was the perfect medley of new school and old school. They also decided to do something different by paying tribute to the world's best 'Blue Eyed Soul' artists, invoking a social media firestorm. The performance featured Jon B, Bobby Caldwell, Dave Koz, and Vanilla Ice. Other singers that performed throughout the night include: Candice Glover, Big Daddy Kane, Eric Benet, Doug E. Fresh, Bobby V, Kenny Lattimore, Smokey Robinson, Stokely Williams, Warren G, Wale and Eddie Levert.

The woman who seemed to steal the show was none other than Tamar Braxton, who took home three well-deserved awards for Best Female R&B Artist, Song Of The Year for ‘Love and War’ and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award. She also performed three songs, including her latest single 'All the Way Home.'

The Soul Train Awards has always had the incredible ability to seamlessly create a timeless experience with developmental tributes from current stars complimenting musical legends. R&B icon Keith Sweat seduced the audience after receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award and producers ended the show with a moving and loving recognition to Dionne Warwick as she received her very own Legend Award. In her acceptance speech, she talked how Don Cornelius had asked her to help put on the very first Soul Train Awards.

The 2013 Soul Train Awards will be replayed numerous times on BET and Centric. The production team truly deserves a standing ovation and a raise; do yourself a favor and watch it. Here is a full list of this year's winners.
