If you have ever taken a lesson of floral designs as a beginner student, you must have learned centerpiece decorations. Suppose you visit the website of a floral shop selling floral arrangements online, most designs you find on the page are centerpieces that are pretty common and very popular among a variety of flower arrangements.

This particular type of arrangement is widely displayed at various places and occasions such as dining table, cocktail table, console table, mantel over a fireplace, front desk of a hotel, reception counter of a corporate office, restaurant’s cashier desk, birthday party, Christmas party, graduation party, wedding and funeral whatsoever.

In short, centerpiece decoration can be displayed at various kinds of places, locations, events, ceremonies, parties and any kind of events, which is one of the main reasons why this arrangement has huge demand in the market. Floral designers and floral shops as well as floral schools cannot ignore this particular market to stabilize their business. Even for pure hobbyists of floral designs, this arrangement is the most important and popular decoration.

As a floral design instructor I have been teaching flower arrangements for over 35 years in Japan and also in the United States. I usually start from centerpiece decoration for entry level students who have no previous experiences in floral arranging. The standard curriculum of our floral school is designed so beginner students start with all round centerpiece arrangement. Take Introductory Trial Budget Program (our school offers) for instance, students usually learn two types of centerpiece decorations, one is all round arrangement and the other one is triangle arrangement.

Once in a while however, some students request me to teach another type of arrangements which are a little bit difficult for entry level students who have no previous experience in floral designing. I can easily understand some people want to learn a very sophisticated design of arrangements from the first beginning stage. As already mentioned however, students should start from the easiest design which is the all round centerpiece decoration.

After earning basic skills of floral designs, they can gradually learn a higher level of arrangements. Actually the standard curriculum is designed to reflect this kind of concept and the way of instructions our school should follow.
