TheDCCenter.org: Exhibit Tonight
There is very little to say about J. Aiden Simon. Specially, if an encounter with the artist hasn’t been in the cards yet. This is just more power to his art, which unlike the hazy person behind it, has so much to say about it. (Aiden appears to be the type to let the visuals talk without embedding the art with wordy explanations.)
The Baltimore based artist has a website that although not packed with many things, has enough to drench upon the corners of your mind and tingle its way through. Visibly an advocate of the Transsexual Community, Aiden also keeps an online blog. (**Be aware of visible nudity appearing through J. Aiden Simon’s work in both his official website and blog-site**)
The DC Center is showing his new exhibit “Member”, a collection of photographs portraying transsexual individuals. Unlike other art available on the topic, Aiden felt the need to make the shots, of an entire nude person, because of his aggravation toward the essential representation of transsexual individuals. The exhibit is meant to reestablish the diversity of men’s bodies in a way that dignifies the models, showing people viewers can relate to, not the faceless bodies of anonymous medical photographs.
Simon aims to increase viewers' awareness of transsexual people and illustrate that it is not always, or even often, evident if a person is transsexual.
The opening reception will be this evening, June 26th, from 5:30 until 8:00pm at the DC Center located on 1111 14th St NW, Suite 350.
The photographs will be showing in the DC Center until the end of July. The Center is opened to the public Monday-Friday from 2:30 to 6:30pm.
