The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a side-splitting story about six kids striving to exceed the world’s expectations. Shunned by the high school ‘populars,’ they compete for what might be the crowning achievement of their young lives.

Director Jeff Collister helms the production with heart, astutely probing beneath the surface of the spellers for breadth and depth of character. Everyone can identify with the theme of this Tony Award winner--teens that want to play the high school game, yet still manage to be outstanding.

The complete cast features Leane Borghesi, Michael Patrick Gaffney, Berwick Haynes, Lindsay Hirata, Brittany Danielle, Adam Elsberry, Mindy Lym, Zac Schuman and Warren McLean Wernick.

Join these whiz kids for hilarious fun, and enjoy learning a few new words in the bargain. Please note that the play contains some humorous use of adult language.
Concept and book are by Rebecca Feldman, and music and lyrics by William Finn.

Center REP’s ‘Bee’ runs through June 21 at Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive in Walnut Creek. Tickets range in price from $47 to $52. Call (925) 943-7469 or purchase online.
