Center for Young Adults going strong

On January 21, 2010, a new pilot project for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was established in Los Lunas, NM; the Center for Young Adults (CfYA). The CfYA is a place where young adults, age 18 to 30, married or unmarried, LDS members or nonmember visitors can gather to enjoy a good home cooked meal, have a gospel discussion and enjoy wholesome, fun activities, along with quarterly service projects.

The center is currently located at 160 James St. in Los Lunas. For anyone needing directions, just take I-25 to the Los Lunas exit, and go east on Main Street. When you arrive at the intersection of Main and Hwy 314, go North. James Street is about 1/4 mile past the stoplight on the left hand side.

Dinner begins at 6:00pm on Thursday nights. At 7:00, a gospel discussion is led by Brother Alec Smith, of the Church Educational System. Attendance of the Gospel Discussion Class is encouraged, but not mandatory for those attending. At 8:00, several activities are available to meet a variety of interests. Recent activities at the center have included glow-in-the-dark volleyball/dodgeball, broom soccer, mixer games, an exercise/dance class, fingerpainting card games and board games. There is almost always a foosball table up, as well as a ping pong table, and access to basketball hoops and basketballs. If you are a young adult and crave good, wholesome fun and peer interaction, the Center for Young Adults is for you.

Because the CfYA in Los Lunas has been successful, a few more centers are planned to be established in Albuquerque in the near future.

The center has also started a series called "The Practical Life", where attendees can learn life skills like budgeting, car maintenance, plumbing, electrical, etc. The first class will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 at the Los Lunas Stake Center at Hwy 314 and James St. in the CfYA office located on the West side of the building.
