This is a last-minute announcement but one definitely worth noting. Tomorrow night soprano Amy Foote (the vocalist in Nonsemble 6) will present a recital of six new musical-theatrical compositions, each by a different Bay Area composer and all set for solo voice (some with self-accompaniment). The title of the program is The Killer Squirrel and other Feral Airs. The selections reflect Foote’s own personal observations and interactions with the animal kingdom. The resulting compositions move from the personification of animals into zoomorphism.
The six composers who contributed to this project are Danny Clay, Anthony Porter, Joseph M. Colombo, Luis Escareño, Mario Godoy, and Nick Benavides.
In addition, the program will begin with a solo performance by guitarist Matt Holmes-Linder (a member of the Mobius Trio). He will give the world premiere of “Winter Empties, Winter Fills” by Garrett Ian Shatzer. He will also perform Belinda Reynolds’ “Yawp.”
This performance will take place at the Center for New Music, 55 Taylor Street. It will begin at 8 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, September 5. Tickets are $20 with a $10 rate for members of the Center. Information about membership may be found on the Membership Web page of the Center’s Web site.
