Weekend excursions can sometimes be found in your own backyard. I spent a fun filled day in Sibley and Buckner Missouri. Here are the top four things I found to do:
1).Fort Osage: National Historic Landmark: This fort was erected to guard the wild frontier. Step back in time to the era of frontiersmen and fur traders. I found the fort to be an extremely enjoyable self-guided tour.
2). Sibley Cemetery: The cemetery is claimed to be one of oldest historic-era cemeteries within Jackson County. The oldest graves thought to be there are of 48 soldiers from Fort Osage and Fort Atchison. The soldiers were buried between 1810 and 1820.
3). The Hawg Shed: Don’t let the name of this restaurant fool you because they serve something to suit everyone: burgers, BBQ, tacos, and burritos. Eat here before winter however because the dining tables are located on an enclosed porch.
4). Sibley Orchards and Cider Mill: Here is a true treasure offering everything from homemade jams, jellies, fresh fruit, hayrides, bonfires and concerts. This is a real gem worth exploring.
The point is, when you have a chance to have a big adventure, especially if, like in your case, it doesn't hurt anyone, it's just plain foolish not to take it.
