Atlanta was close until midway through the fourth quarter, when the Celtics (20-39) put them away for good. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 9-20 on the road and 26-31 overall while clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 23-8 lead, but ran out of gas again later in the game in letting the Celtics come back. With four frontline players out, Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer seemed resigned to knowing it'll be tough going forward.

"I think there was a lot of length, a lot of size that we are battling, and I think that when you look at the shot disparity, I think they had 90 shots to our 76, and I think they had 17 more rebounds," he said. "We had more turnovers, they had more offensive rebounds and all of that just becomes too much to overcome."

Jerryd Bayless, receiving his first start of the season for Boston, notched a season-high 29 points. Rajon Rondo had 22 points and 11 assists, while Gerald Wallace has a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jeff Teague had 26 points and DeMarre Carroll had 24 points for the Hawks.

Atlanta's next game is Sunday at home against Phoenix (33-24).
