Celtic "Stonehenge" found in Germany

Researchers in Germany found "a huge early Celtic calendar construction" in Germany's Black Forest. Stonehenge is placed towards the sun and the burial mound of Magdalenenberg is situated towards the moon.

According to Science Daily,

The builders positioned long rows of wooden posts in the burial mound to be able to focus on the Lunar Standstills. These Lunar Standstills happen every 18,6 year and were the 'corner stones' of the Celtic calendar.

Dr. Allard Mees says his team was able to "reconstruct the position of the sky constellations in the early Celtic period and following from that those which were visible at Midsummer. This archaeo-astronomic research resulted in a date of Midsummer 618 BC, which makes it the earliest and most complete example of a Celtic calendar focused on the moon."

Julius Caesar talked about the Celtic calendar in his war commentaries; however, after Caesar, the Celtic calendar was forgotten becuase the sun based calendar, which the Romans used, became the calendar of use in Europe.

The Celts started their day at sun down. There are 12 moons in a normal solar year but every 21 years there are 13 moons in a solar year. The Celtic year is divided into four main parts: Samhain, Imbolic, Beltain, and Lugnasa.
