Celtic bands make St Patricks Day fun

With St Patrick’s day a few days away there is no better way to add to your wearing of the green festivities than listening to some of the best Celtic hard rock and metal bands. Over the years there have been many music acts or bands with Irish or Celtic roots but the metal and hard rock world have some of the best. The first that comes to mind is Thin Lizzy. The hard rocking Dublin band “was founded in the late 1960’s and their late lead singer and bassist Phil Lynott put it best in one of his last interviews “we all had those traditional songs we all knew and we just jazzed them up a bit with rock and roll”. Some of their best work with traditional Celtic songs can be heard on the bands classic song “Black Rose” where they blend Celtic story telling with a mix of many old Irish songs as well as the basis for the guitar solos. They also did wonders for the Celtic music lovers by doing a cover of “Whiskey in a Jar” in 1973. Another great band with Celtic roots is Boston’s Dropkick Murphy’s. These Boston lads mix old school punk and classic Celtic songs to bring a fresh twist to Celtic heritage and sounds. They have added their punk twist to such classics as “Rocky road to Dublin”, “Black Velvet Band”, “The Irish Rover” and many more. They have also made quite a few original songs that bring out the Irish in all of us. Flogging Molly are another Celtic hard rock band that have great live shows and some Celtic rock songs that can liven up any party on St Paddy’s day or anytime you want a good time. Other bands you should look into for some Celtic rock fun or themed songs are Big Country, The Bloody Irish Boys, Stiff Little Fingers, and if you feel like going old school The Dubliners
