Cellmates (2011): Synopsis and quotes

Cellmates is an Indie love-story, though the love-story business doesn't consume the entire film.

Leroy Lowe (Tom Sizemore) was a Texas Grand Dragon until he went to the big house, which is a working prison. The product is potato's and Warden Merville (Stacy Keach) unrelents with his potato and potato pests talk.

When Leroy's first cellie chokes on a potato, he survives, but he seems vegatable-like, at best. They transfer him to another ward.

The warden decides that it's time for Leroy to have a different cellie, a Hispanic one, who eventually, wins him over, even though he babbles quite a bit, too.

He becomes interested in the warden's maid, Madalena (Olga Secura), who begins sending him notes, written in Spanish. Emilio, his new cellmate must decipher them. This is when Leroy starts coming around to his side of the table.

Bubba: You think you might rather make it Satuday, instead (of Friday)?
Leroy: Why?
Bubba: I'd rather not cause a hulla buloo on a Friday. That's sweet potato day.

Emilio: From the Justice Department.

Emilio: If you don't wanna tell, you don't have to tell me.

Emilio: My freind Felipe write to me.

Emilio: ...that's what makes them very American.

Emilio: Well, if you wasn't such a racy gringo, you might have a penpal, too.

Leroy: He (Bubba) survived (choking on a potato chunk), but, he was never quite the same after that.

Leroy: There is something special about that woman.

Warden Merville: It is blatant disrespect from my position. That's what it is.

Warden Merville: It's a lot of hard work to create the perfect potato.

Warden Merville: We've got aphids!

Warden Merville: You ruffle my feathers and I will introduce you to a world of pain,
Texas style. You clan folks ain't nothin' but a hate-mongerin' bunch of trouble makers.
Maybe, your momma didn't love you enough or, maybe she loved you too much.
