Studies have shown that the use of cellular phones is actually affecting the capabilities of human memory. It has been proven that the use of cellular devices decreases the amount of information that can be remembered. Cell phones are supposed to be making our lives easier, but the lasting effects have not yet been seen.
Cellular devices are very new to the world. Since they were only introduced a short time ago, their long term consequences have not been able to be studied. As time goes on the effects will become more evident. Not only more studies will be able to be completed, but the general public will start showing the effects.
In the lab studies, the experimental group of rats was exposed to cell phone radiation for two hours a week for over a year. The control group was not exposed to any additional radiation other than the normal daily radiation received by everything on earth. The conclusion of the study was that the experimental group showed poorer results on a memory test than the control group.
Scientists think that the reason for this memory loss is that the cellular radiation damaged nerve cells in the brain. The radiation actually stopped the blood-brain barrier from working, which is a barrier that blocks certain substances from circulating in the brain that cause damage to the nerves. The scientists also found damage in the cerebral cortex and the hippocampus, which is the memory center of the brain.
This experiment was only giving the rats two hours of cellular radiation a week for a little over a year. Most people that have cell phones are easily exceeding using them two hours a week. Some people even use their cell phones two hours a day.
Although the effects are not immediate, and may not be able to be seen at the present moment, there is inevitably going to be lasting long term damage to the brain because of the use of cellular devices. It will only take time for this to show and become an issue.
