Christianity, in essence, teaches that mankind is pretty much in the dark and domiciled here on Earth but “in the next life” we will have eyes opened to the "mysteries of the universe" and at that time learn the wonders of God. This, according to the Urantia Book, has led to much mysticism and speculation.
This 2097 page Urantia Book, with no known author and printed in 1955, says we were never meant to be in the dark and seeks to open the mystical eyes to a literal-living reality.
The Urantia Book (UB) also describes how we have celestial heaven-sent “teachers” -- former mortals who have returned to assist in breaking the bonds of mysticism and assist in our cosmic and spiritual education (see Celestial Overseers--Part II. Also see www.mansionworldteachings.org).
In fact, the whole universe is a vast 'university' of hands-on learning through real, not mystical, experience--tutored by those just ahead of us. World after world we metamorphose from our animalistic and physical natures through a morontial phase and into the spiritual (non-physical) realms -- about 2 billion transitions in this universal educational experience before we embrace the shores of Paradise—according to the Urantia Book (Earth Book). That is a far-cry from the mystical thinking of Earth-life being followed by “heaven or hell.”
It may be much easier to believe in the mystical ‘heaven and hell’ campaign. With a dash of hope and a little faith all will be well with us when we awaken from death’s sleep.
The Urantia Book’s assertion is that man must ‘earn’ his stripes. Education and experience are the very reason for our existence and that there is no other way to truly gain and appreciate meanings and values.
The Urantia papers disclose it was never meant for us to be isolated and in the dark. But because our world in ages past had succumbed to “the Lucifer rebellion” (a revolt that affected 36 other worlds in our neck of the woods) we were just that, isolated, being cut off from our planetary neighbors. Even more drastic and critical, the universe “circuits”--lines of communication from Earth to other celestial spheres--were severed. In other words, until very recently, our universe Internet connections were down.
Jesus himself, the Creator our world and Unvierse, came to our rescue personally. His rejection and brutal murder was a double-setback for our barbaric world and we plunged headlong into the dark-ages.
The Urantia Book discloses in great detail how Jesus vowed to not leave this world, alone. Earth would become the shrine of all worlds--the very home of his mortality. He would return to claim it and his children "when the Lucifer vs. Gabriel case would be adjudicated in the courts On High." At that time our binding shackles will begin to drop. The “circuits" would be restored and our universal education system would resume.
Logically, this transition back to normality would not be sudden. It would take careful planning and execution. Mankind’s free will must be paramount. Particularly in the last 100 years, events were put in motion for the shackles of mysticism to progressively fall, and for reality to be restored. This would be a slow and arduous recovery, but one that would bring lasting enlightenment and peace—the brotherhood of mankind.
The Urantia Book describes how Christianity, almost immediately after Jesus' crucifixion, had evolved into a religion “about Jesus” rather than the religion “of” Jesus. The Urantia revelations re-present the religion ‘of’ Jesus. Over 700 of its pages are attributed to his entire life and teachings.
In much of our world’s history since the Lucifer revolt, the business of religion had become the world’s most profitable venture. The ploy was to keep people in the dark, make them feel guilty and paying for their delivery from sin. Yes, there was a consoling promise that with a token of faith and good works we would survive after death with rewards of bliss; but if not, we would “burn forever.”
The Urantia Book presents a more malleable approach to reality, to God – through our free-will 'choosing to change' and without threat of hellfire and damnation. It asserts clearly - the Universe is alive and well and that our Creator/Brother (Jesus) has sent real live teachers (Celestial Overseers) to see to our literal education.
A Urantia Book study group in Woods Cross, Utah, in 1991, became some of the first fruits of these restored celestial teachers. Former mortals, having been trained on high and commissioned through “the Melchizedeks, had returned to Earth (Urantia) in droves to once again commence the universal education of mankind.
