Celebs get ready to tee off

The top celebrity golf event in the country returns to South Lake Tahoe, July 15-20, 2014 to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The American Century Championship annually offers a star-studded line-up of footballers, baseballers, hoopsters and actors, who just might take a pause when this year’s newest celebrity golfer steps up to the first tee. Annika Sorenstam, perhaps the greatest women’s golfer ever, certainly the greatest of modern times, will play against the men. The last time she competed against men was in a PGA Tour event. Sacramento golf fans have certainly seen Sorenstam when she competed in the LPGA events at Catta Verdera (then known as Twelve Bridges) and later at The Ridge in Auburn.

These days Sorenstam, retired from the LPGA, is a wife, mother, golf and wine entrepreneur so it remains to be seen what shape her game will be in for such a fun loving event, but with modified stableford scoring, Annika has been made the hands down favorite at the casinos.

NBC Sports and NBC Sports network will televise the tournament nationally, but why not head for Tahoe and enjoy the likes and hijinks of Charles Barkley, Stephen Curry, Aaron Rodgers, Ray Allen, Jerry Rice, John Elway and many more. Joining Annika as new players to the field this year will be Chipper Jones, (Atlanta Braves), Jorge Posada (Yankees) and media celebrity Holly Sonders from the Golf Channel.
