On Friday, March 15, 2013, celebrity blogger Sandra Rose claims God is her back up for tweeting, "Three men admit having sex with the same 13-year-old. The slut." When her tweet aroused outrage on Twitter, she added fuel to the fire saying,"They [little girls] have periods at age 12? You do know periods signal when a girl is ready to get pregnant? Is God Wrong for that?" She continued, "Take your complaints up with God."
Rose is speaking of the child molestation charges against three Indiana men who have admitted having sex with the same thirteen-year-old girl. According to CBS Local, the three men have been charged separately for the offenses. This is not a case where the girl's age was unknown since one of the men, her boyfriend, Charles K. Nafus III, has admitted he knew her age, and even knowing, he had sex with her many times.
Sandra Rose's popular celebrity blog, with a Twitter page which has amassed more than 36,000 followers, mixes controversial events along with her coverage of newsworthy celebrities. Rose is trying to make the case that the sex was consensual and that the age of consent is at fault, not the guys.
Rose found a pocket of supporters to counter her mostly conservative critics. Latrice Jackson seemed to confirm Rose's point of view, tweeting, "@SandraRose, My 14 YO neighbor just had a baby, and the Family is telling her "Good Job" the father is 19!"
Not content with merely calling a thirteen-year-old a slut, Rose also encouraged abuse of women by saying, "A man can only take so much. A real man, that is." Then she added, "If a man does everything he's supposed to do as a man, and his woman strays from the path, he must smite her."
If Rose's use of the term, "smite," is another attempt to reference God as her source for justifying abuse of women, her followers might do well to recall the biblical warning to pluck out what is offensive. Perhaps it's time Rose's followers plucked her Twitter page and celebrity blog from those they follow.
