Do you ever feel furious with your scale? Annoyed with your skinny jeans that still won't fit? Mad at the way your body just won't shed pounds despite trying every diet on the planet? Then it's time to meet Vinnie Tortorich, who calls himself America's "angriest trainer," according to U.S. News. Hollywood's go-to fitness guru, Vinnie is a personal trainer for celebrities such as Howie Mandel and author of "Fitness Confidential: Adventures in the Weight-Loss Game."
"It's not that difficult to lose weight, to get in shape and to stay in shape," Vinnie informed U.S. News. "It's very simple, and I'm not going to pretend that it's more difficult than that." He has two rules:
- Move your body, and begin slowly.
- When it comes to diet: "STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR AND GRAINS" (caps courtesy of Vinnie).
So why is it so difficult to lose weight in this nation? Vinnie points the finger of blame at health food stores, gyms, various diets and even the U.S. Department of Agriculture, contending that these companies and individuals involved are tossing out realistic health advice in favor of profits. And the bottom line on why your bottom is expanding? Calories from grains and sugar are "killing you," writes Vinnie.
He says that our bodies could handle "just a little extra corn and bread. But, over time, it's ended up in everything. Like the Kardashians. And now that we're flooded with that garbage in such unprecedented quantities, our bodies don't know what to do with it, and so we convert it to fat and store it." (Hmm, sort of like some of us store all that TMI about the Kardashians.) And the same problem exists with sugar.
Vinnie provides full details on his diet philosophy (be prepared to get rid of those grains and recognize that sugar sucks) and training, as well as his background, in his book: "Fitness Confidential: Adventures in the Weight Loss Game." He also provides a list of recommended books on his site (click the links for details on each):
