Celebrity tanning is making a statement in the UK, thanks to Girls Aloud group member Nicola Roberts who's taking a stand against tanning bed/tanning salon addicts.
"I tried to cover up my insecurities by turning into a big-time tanorexic," Roberts says on the group's blog, talking about her new campaign against the dangers of tanning.
In fact, she's even claimed her own TV show where she will go deep into the darkness to uncover how far people will go to get tan.
While it sounds strikingly similar to singer-turned-designer Jessica Simpson's Price of Beauty plight,The Daily Star says the show will pop up on the BBC this spring - Just in time for tanning season.
"I was very young when I was using fake tan and I didn’t care," the singer tells the Star. "I had a very narrow-minded view on what was pretty and what wasn’t. I automatically thought that tanned was attractive. As I got older, I realized fake tan was rather messy and I wanted to look cleaner, classier and more demure. I started looking at women like Lily Cole and Sophie Ellis Bextor – beautiful women with their pale skin, rather than looking at the run-of-the-mill, tanned, average lady."
Celebrities looked up to in the states for being tan include teen pop singer Miley Cyrus, the cast of The Jersey Shore which says it's "all about the tan" and Kate Gosselin. What do you think? All this fuss over nothing? Or a serious subject worth cluing into?
