What do Gwyneth Paltrow, fashion designer Donna Karan and actress Kyra Sedgwick have in common? They're all fans of a pioneer and expert in Integrative and Functional Medicine, Dr. Frank Lipman. Founder and director of Eleven-Eleven Wellness Center in New York City, his blogs offer insights into everything from weight loss to anti-aging secrets. And in a recent blog, Dr. Lipman revealed what he calls some of the most "fascinating" supplements.
"Glutathione is one of the most powerful antioxidants our bodies produce," says Dr. Lipman. It helps with energy and your metabolism.
"Vitamin K is a quiet powerhouse that plays a role in cancer prevention, maintaining skin elasticity, fighting osteoporosis, as well as protecting heart and brain function," Dr. Lipman reveals. It also moves it from dangerous places such as your arteries to where it's needed, such as your bones.
"L-theanine supplements are nature’s “chill pills.” Found primarily in tea, L-theanine is an amino acid that helps calm the nervous system," says Dr. Lipman. From helping you sleep more soundly to relieving anxiety, it's a useful drug-free option.
Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) oil "is an excellent, yet under-the-radar supplement that’s useful for boosting energy and supporting athletic performance, as well as metabolic function and cognitive health," says the physician.
