Lucy Torres Gomez, TV host,  takes oath this Monday as congresswoman in the 4th District of Leyte, Philippines. She has become a successful replacement for her husband, actor Richard Gomez Richard Gomez, whose candidacy was barred by a disqualification case in Ormoc, Leyte. The actor was disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) because of his failure to establish residency in Ormoc, Leyte. In return, Richard endorsed Lucy to run for public office as his substitute even before the COMELEC reached its final decision on the matter, to which Comelec approved Lucy’s run for Congress.

Lucy has emerged victorious. She also has recently finished the ten-day course on legislation and governance at the University of the Philippines, to prepare for her congressional duties.
