Actor Tom Cruise owns a luxury home in Beverly Hills. The local police had a chance to tour the house recently after prank callers contacted the authorities and requested they send in a swat team. On Jan. 18, Ahlan Live reported the strange real estate news, saying, "Police were sent to [Cruise's house in the famous neighborhood] following a report about an alleged armed intruder on the property."
According to the source, "The alarm was raised in a call which is now believed to have been a prank after members of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrived at the Beverly Hills estate to find nothing suspicious." The website cites TMZ as the entertainment news source where they derived their information.
But it is not just Cruise who has been pranked lately in a new hoax called "swatting". Several other big name celebrities who live in the area also had their celebrity homes visited by local police after prank callers tricked the authorities (presumably with the goal of embarrassing and inconveniencing the famous stars, their staff, and families).
Ashton Kutcher and Justin Bieber were two other targets. Swatting is the new punked, apparently, says Gawker.
"Police were called to the 34-year-old Two And A Half Men star and the 18-year-old Canadian popstar's houses, along with a number of other celebrity owned properties over the past few months, after they received anonymous calls claiming the properties were being robbed and in some cases victims had been taken hostage..." says Ahlan Live.

At the time of the prank call, the actor was not home. He also keeps a residence in New York City, one he has been staying at frequently since his split from Suri Cruise's mother Katie Holmes.
