Celebrity hairstyles for the holidays

Celebrity hairstyles are generally fun, usually with lots to dish about, especially musicians, performers and models. However, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which aired November 29th and the Live Grammy Nomination Concert that aired November 30th, both on CBS, provided very little fodder for the hair followers. Even the outlandish hairstyles of Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, were slightly boring leaving us asking for more.

There was one consistent style worn by the Dream Angels for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: long and wavy, akin to beach waves. Simple to recreate and great for long hair of any type; straight, wavy and ethnic, the hairstyle worn by the Victoria’s Secret models during the fashion show is perfect for cocktail dresses and the boudoir. Begin with a volumizing mousse and dry the hair completely. Using a large barrel iron (either 1 ½ or 2 inches), take one-inch sections and curl the hair. The curls do not need to be uniform and could go in any haphazard direction. Lift the hair from the root to add volume and loosely wrap the rest of the section, but leave the ends out. Seal with a strong finishing spray such as Sebastian’s Shine and Define Flexible Hold Spray available on Long Island at Andrew James Salon in Franklin Square and voilà, you are ready for the catwalk. Make a super model entrance at the next holiday party with this super sexy hairstyle.

Significantly missing from the Live Grammy Nominations Concert was Katy Perry’s hot pink hair. The problem with using fun and colorful pastels as permanent hair color is the extreme fade rate. Katy Perry’s updo was beautiful, however the color was like a tired Easter Bunny that ran out of color to dye the eggs. Before a public appearance, her pink needed a refresher or just dyed back to dark brown or black. Lady Gaga kept to the color blonde for the evening with a long wig, then a short Marilyn Monroe one. Her makeup was skeletal, however, the Marilyn wig was a hit. Even Nicki Minaj was slightly subdued with a light pink and blonde wig.

Katy Perry’s twist is a classic style for any elegant affair and easy to create with a decorative hair clip or comb that may be purchased at Afaze in Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream. Simply pull the hair into a ponytail, twist and secure with a hair comb. Release a little hair in the bang area and curl with a large barreled iron.
