Celebrity Brothers To Expand Burger Restaurant

Move over Geno’s and Pat’s Steaks, you soon will have some Beantown star power competition. If everything goes according to plan, the City of Brotherly Love could soon be home to the Wahlberg brothers’ latest burger venture. Wahlburgers, the Boston burger restaurant founded by brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg, has announced plans to expand to Philadelphia and Toronto while increasing its footprint in Boston.

Wahlburgers has signed a franchise agreement with Hingham Associates that will bring the restaurant to the metropolitan Philadelphia area. The franchise group is actively looking at sites in the region and is targeting a late 2014-2015 opening for its first American restaurant outside of Boston. As part of the expansion plan as many as five eateries could open in the greater Philadelphia region including a restaurant in the Atlantic City area.

Billing itself as a fast, casual burger restaurant, Wahlburgers is also finalizing leases for two restaurants in the metro and suburban Boston area. These include sites in the Fenway neighborhood in Boston and Market Street Center in Lynnfield. Both eateries are planned to be over 4200-square feet with sizable outdoor patios and offer all the signature characteristics of the original location. The two Boston area sites were selected after reviewing nearly four dozen options over the past year and a half and are consistent with the company’s desire to locate Wahlburgers in high traffic locations.

In the meantime the company is preparing to take the wraps off its first Canadian restaurant this summer located at 46 Blue Jay Way in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district.

Founded by executive chef Paul Wahlberg and his brothers-actors Mark and Donnie, Wahlburgers offers both fast casual and table service featuring a menu of made-to-order fresh ground beef burgers, pure beef hot dogs, crispy fries, onion rings and specialty frappes.

While you wait for the opportunity to take a bite of a specialty burger from the restaurant you will be able to satisfy your appetite with a second season of the hit A&E Network reality show “Wahlburgers.” The second season of the show is scheduled to return to production in a few weeks.
