'Celebrity Apprentice' goes Medieval, jousting on Oscar Night

Horse lovers will have to pony up on February 26, setting TIVOs and cable boxes for the evening. Donald Trump is pitting his reality television headliners against the Academy Awards.

In the February 26 installment of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” titled “Get Medieval,” the herd of star players will be charged with a task revolving around popular medieval jousting performances. The Donald instructs his latest batch of contestants to create and perform in an original and live performance for Medieval Times.

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider appears in drag as a damsel in distress on horseback, apparently suffering an actual injury during the program.

The horse-themed competition is rumored to turn into a catfight between female celebrity contestants as well. With the women vying against the men, the competition may actually become both primeval and medieval. The women are already down one player. Supermodel Cheryl Tiegs was the first contestant booted from this season of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” as the leggy blonde was ousted in the premiere, which aired on February 19.

Of course, the biggest competition may be the scheduling faceoff between “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which airs at 9 p.m. ET on NBC TV, and “The 84th Academy Awards,” boasting the much-heralded return of comic/host Billy Crystal. The Oscars start at 8:30 p.m. on ABC TV and run all evening. Pre-Oscars red-carpet coverage starts even earlier.

Equestrian enthusiasts may be cheering for Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse,” which received six Oscar nominations. Still, horse fans may be drawn to Trump’s horseback drama on the same night. Will equine lovers watch the Oscars or the nit-picking celebrities, playing reality television games on horseback to benefit their favorite charities?

The TV ratings are likely to be a horse race, as viewers wait to see who takes home the golden Oscar statuettes and who simply gets the boot from Trump.
