The New York City Marathon returned early Sunday with thousands of dedicated runners and some celebrities pounding the pavement in all five boroughs.
The famed annual marathon returned from a hiatus last year due to super storm Sandy. Last year’s devastating hurricane forced a halt to the marathon, for many felt it was not appropriate to celebrate the marathon, while many New Yorkers were left homeless, and many Manhattan spots were without lights.
This year, despite the terror that occurred in Boston’s marathon in April, thousands including TV and movie personalities still made it to the popular race.
As for some of the celebs who completed the 26-mile run and crossed the finish line were: Pamela Anderson, who finished at 5:41:03, TV personality and Apprentice winner, Bill Rancic finished at 4:57:23, according to E! News.
Model Christy Turlington crossed the finish line at 4:35:32, Master Chef Judge, Joe Bastianick at 4:00:06 and Olympic swimming gold medalist and recreational runner, Summer Sanders also crossed the line way under five hours.
“I am thrilled to be back at the ING New York City Marathon, as the energy throughout the 26.2 miles is like nothing else. I lived in New York City for eight years and still love this city. This is such a great reason to come back and soak it up,” said Olympic winner, Sanders.
The former Baywatch star and two-time Dancing with the Stars contestant was proud to run with her brother by her side. She even tweeted: “So proud of my brother Gerry. Thank G. for running next to me today – love you lots.”
As for the now bigger celebrities and respective marathon winners were Kenyan runners, Priscah Jeptoo and Geoffrey Mutai, who completed the run way under 2-1/2 hours.
