Powerful actors are slated to read excerpts from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley's plays on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hammer museum. It's all part of "Some Favorite Writers," a series of fantastic readings put together by Mona Simpson, whose recent page-turner, My Hollywood, explores the peculiar world of L.A. nannies and the glittery people who employ them. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to see Ed Harris, Diane Keaton, Amy Madigan, and Belita Moreno read live. It's free!
Beth Henley has written numerous plays about Southern women that have graced stages around the world. You probably remember her for Crimes of the Heart and The Miss Firecracker Contest. Her latest play is The Jacksonian.
All of the actors who will be reading are highly-acclaimed. Ed Harris was nominated for four Oscars for The Hours, Pollock, The Truman Show, and Apollo 13. Who can forget Diane Keaton in Annie Hall? Aside from this groundbreaking comedy, Keaton was nominated for three other Oscars for Something's Gotta Give, Marvin's Room, and Reds. Amy Madigan was nominated for an Oscar for Twice in a Lifetime. As for Belito Moreno, who may be best known as Benny on the George Lopez show, Henley created a number of roles specifically for her.
Although this program is free, tickets are required. Pick up yours at the Billy Wilder Theater Box Office. Only one ticket per person will be dispensed on a first come, first served basis, so arrive at least one half hour early.
It's play time!
