On Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 8:00 pm, the Hollywood Bowl hosts the Academy Celebrates the Black Movie Soundtrack. This promises to be a very special night of music and movies. There is a lot of great music from those films that we have come to know and enjoy over the years. It's a good idea to put on a show like this and it is something that should have been done before.
Marcus Miller who is a Grammy Award winning musician and composer and award winning producer and director Reginald Hudlin collaborate on this event. There will be film clips on the big screen at the Bowl. Films such as: Stormy Weather, Superfly, The Bodyguard and Purple Rain are just some of the movies that will be featured. Actor Craig Robinson will be the host for the evening.
The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and conductor Vince Mendoza will be part of the program. The other artists include: Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, En Vogue, Public Enemy, Lalah Hathaway and Princess (Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum). They are all listed as special guests. The musical director is Marcus Miller. Tickets can be purchased by going to www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets. Don't forget to bring a light jacket or a blanket with you when you go the Bowl because it tends to get cool at night.
It should be a fun night. It you get the chance by all means, please go. There is nothing better than listening to live music and watching movies. When you put them together, it is simply magical. Hats off to the Hollywood Bowl for hosting this event and here's hoping it will be a huge success.
