There is a link between this year's "Celebration of Life Week" the Charlotte Area. International Society of Friendship and Good Will founder, Dr. Stanley J. Drake, lived in Shelby, North Carolina and taught at Gaston College in Dallas, about 35 minutes from Charlotte. From home and at the College, Dr Drake "preached la vorto de esperanto" - preached the word about Esperanto.

"Celebration of Life", a week-long celebration sponsored and promoted by the International Society of Friendship and Good Will (ISFGW). The ISFGW was founded by Dr. Drake March 8, 1978. In 1986, the ISFGW was headquarted in the Shelby North Carolina home of Dr. Drake, a retired college president. Dr. Drake taught Esperanto at on Gaston College.

One of ten objectives of ISFGW is :

To promote the teaching and learning of Esperanto, the most widely used auxiliary language for international communication, and to collaborate with national and international Esperanto associations.

Esperanto is a constructed or intentionally designed language invented by Ludwig Lazarus Zamenhof. Zamemhof first published about the language in 1887. His goal was to “create an easy-to-learn and politically neutral language that would serve as a universalsecond language to foster peace and international understanding.Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto).

Dr. Drake is dedicated to the promotion of Esperanto. During his years at Gaston College, he even offered a free 10-week home study course in Esperanto. The ISFGW website, http://www.friendshipandgoodwill.org, lists Dr. Drake as alive and living in Burgaw, NC.

Dr Drake is author of the book, "Pensoj el Biblio" (Thoughts from the Bible). Indeed there are some faiths which promote Esperanto as a means to unify the world. Oomoto, Bahá'í Faith, Freemasonry, The Catholic Church, some Spiritualists, and even Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran are in favor of the use of Esperanto.
