One doesn’t need Valentine’s Day to take the time to express what’s in your heart, but nonetheless, it’s nice to be reminded to let those we love and cherish know just how we feel. Who but among us are not guilty of forgetting at times to give thanks, a bit of praise, a gentle hug, or a not so gentle hug … a hearty hug that starts somewhere in your toes and finishes in your hands that wrap around that oh-so-precious person that makes all the difference in your life.
Life moves so quickly, always something or someone demanding our attention, and it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own thoughts and emotions, getting the next thing done on our to-do list. So, while celebrating Valentine's Day may seem a bit commercial these days with the choice of a great many extravagant gifts at every turn, perhaps the most cherished gift might be the one that doesn’t cost a thing.
A heartfelt hug that really just begins when you would normally pull away
A handwritten list of all the things you love about your loved one
A single handpicked flower if you can find it, lilies this time of year or a few branches clipped from a quince bush , the buds are gorgeous when they open
Let your loved one sit and relax while you make their favorite dinner
An unexpected walk together anywhere that feels good holding hands, even if you’ve fallen out of the habit of holding hands, it’s a bit like riding a bike, you never really forget how
Movie night, your loved one’s favorite, even if you’ve seen it too many times to count … and don’t forget the popcorn
A neck rub, or if you have the ability, a full body massage
And that’s just my list, everyone has their own favorites. Whatever your pleasure, the point is, remember to pleasure those you love this Valentine’s Day.
