This year marks a very special milestone for Vail as the resort turns the big 5-0. During their season-long 50th anniversary celebration, it is the perfect time to visit but why not bring the best of home-sweet-home to Colorado? When planning your ski vacay, booking your stay with Wyndham Vacation Rentals offers professionally managed properties with all the comforts of home, and the added upscale offerings you can expect at their properties. Located just steps from Vail Mountain, Montaneros offers superior 1 to 4 bedroom condominiums with exceptional amenities and access to Lionshead Village-- this quaint mountain lodge is close to shopping, restaurants, nightlife and of course the best fresh snowfall in the Rockies. Vail is the perfect choice for a weekend away or a family vacation as we discover what this epic locale has to offer…
Like nothing on Earth:
Vail Mountain opened in 1962 with $5 lift tickets, and while today’s prices are a bit more, it is still a skier’s paradise. Wide-open groomed terrain, legendary back bowls and cruisers make it the mountain for every ability level to find their perfect line within 5289 acres of skiable terrain. But what does a ski weekend look like here? Well, it can be as busy or as relaxed as you’d like. Upon checking in at Montaneros, you’ll be greeted by an uber-friendly staff and the smells of hot cocoa and fresh popcorn lingering in the air. Every Montaneros condominium offers a full kitchen to whip up your own treats, the warmth of a gas log fireplace, TVs with cable and DVD players and for grill enthusiasts, there is even a BBQ on your private balcony.
But on night-one, why not let someone else do the cooking for you? Head down into the village and try the newly opened, Latin-inspired El Sabor. As the newest restaurant to open in Lionshead Village, they are open for breakfast, lunch, après ski and dinner. Right at the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola, enjoy fresh guac and chips, Kitchen Sink burritos and don’t miss their churros with dark chocolate dipping sauce--scrumptious. But after your meal, there is ice skating in the village, DVD’s to rent in the lobby, and a fireplace to lounge in front of as you gaze at the Rockies. Replete with luxurious in-room and on-site amenities, Montaneros even boasts an outdoor heated pool, outdoor hot tub and sauna to complete your evening.
The next morning hit the slopes and don’t worry if you don’t have your own gear;
there are plenty of options to rent skis and boards. Head down to the gondola to get your first tracks in and hope there were some flurries the night before. Also, while visiting a Vail Resort, be sure to download the EpicMix app for skiers and snowboarders; it tracks your progress, you can earn “badges” and find your friends on-mountain to meet up for lunch. When it comes to mountain-top grub after getting in some runs, there are many great choices, but for a quick bite visit Buffalo’s located at the Mountaintop Express lift (#4). If you’re looking to relax a bit more try The 10th, Vail’s newest on-mountain table-service dining experience; it is a quiet nod to the legendary 10th Mountain Division and one of Vail’s co-founders, Pete Seibert.
Another fun-filled Vail treasure is Adventure Ridge. Guests can play into the night-time with ski bikes, a snowmobile track, rip-roaring tubing lanes and more. The tubing is a must-do with its multi-lane environment featuring music and a covered transport to the top of the hill. Open 7 days a week, Adventure Ridge is located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola. A great way to complete your day of fun in the snow is with dinner at Bistro 14 at Adventure Ridge. It’s casual and family-friendly; but there are also tasty places to eat in the village such as Blue Moose Pizza where you can always stop in for a slice (be sure to try the “VONNderful”, skier Lindsey Vonn’s pie of choice). But what makes a stay at Montaneros so ideal, is that you can go out and enjoy the area, or stay in and grill some steaks, sip the complimentary wine winter guests receive upon check-in and just enjoy. The property is truly a home away from home… with maid service of course.
With events like the Burton US Open Snowboard Championships and Spring Back to Vail, the area will be bustling so don’t wait too long to book your trip. It’s time to start creating your own mountain memories at Montaneros in Vail as you celebrate the past, present and future of Vail along with your own personal milestones. Traditionally for a 50th anniversary, gold is the gift of choice, but here’s wishing this special destination heaps of fresh pow-pow…
