What an amazing day it was yesterday for the Atlanta Blues Society! It was the first meeting with the new President and the new board, and the enthusiasm was unbelievable as was the turn out. The crowd was far beyond the expected number, and Steve's Live Music was packed. There were old returning members, new members, and an air of excitement and promise as tne new board and President bring fresh ideas and possibilities. For, no matter how dedicated leadership may be, there is always a time for change.
The new board is entirely made up of people deeply involved in the Atlanta blues scene, including musicians as well as dedicated music fans. With the new influx of members, we can all expect a lot more from our Society.
The meeting itself was great fun, with music by The Breeze Kings followed by the introduction of the board and some brief matters of business, and then a marvelous jam. Steve's Live Music is a wonderful venue in Sandy Springs, luckily spacious and with a good-sized stage. We left while the music was still going on, but we really enjoyed seeing The Junk Yard Dogs in the jam and Chicago Joe Jones and three of his students, who call themselves Tequila Mockingbird and were up to the usual extremely high standard of Chicago Joe's students.
It was a joyful and inspiring experience for any blues lover and a truy encouraging start for a vibrant, active, newly re-energized Atlanta Blues Society. We look with respect to the old leadership and we embrace the promise of the new leadership.
If you have not yet joined the Atlanta Blues Society, I strongly suggest you do so and support the blues and live music in our area. You can learn more at the Atlanta Blues Society and Atlanta Blues Notes websites.
