There is nothing more romantic than planning a spring or summer wedding and with that in mind, the Weston Historical Society along with the Weston Women's League has organized a perfect event for brides and brides to be that want to remember or create a time honored tradition for their wedding day.
On February 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. guests of the Weston Historical Society will be treated with a fabulous display of vintage wedding gowns in addition to a "red carpet" show of contemporary wedding dresses that will highlight the "Brides of Weston" event.
The highlight of the event will be the 12 mannequins carefully and lavishly dressed in period wedding gowns handed down by prominent Weston families that reflect styles dating as far back as 1812. These brides to be are beautifully accessorized with period wedding shoes and veils. Weston Women’s League members Linda Predovsky, Daniela Ackley, Kim Burke, and Catherine Revzon will be modeling more recent fashions, including Catherine’s traditional Chinese Cheongsam.
Additional displays include men’s vests and an array of items from a hope chest. To round out this bridal exhibition, a gallery of old photographs will be on display. A prize will be awarded to the savvy museumgoer that can best match the photos with the names of those in them.
After admiring the many lovely wedding gowns, there will be a reception with old-fashioned wedding punch, wine, hors d'oeuvres, and even mini wedding cakes.
The Weston Historical Society is located at 104 Weston Road, also the location of the Weston Women’s Club summer Farmer’s Market. Entry will be $25 per person, $5 for children under 12. For more information visit www.WestonHistoricalSociety.org. For area information www.visitfairfieldcountyct.com.
