The STM (Societe de transport de Montreal) is celebrating 150 years of public transit activity on the Island of Montreal this year.

“We’ve come a long way together and, at the STM, we felt it was important to celebrate this historic event. Proudly responsible for nearly 390 million trips a year, the STM wishes to share its photographic archives with its loyal customers and the general public. These photos highlight the work of public transit employees from 1861 to today”, declared Michel Labrecque, Chairman of the STM board of directors.

Starting February 25th, 2011, visitors can appreciate the 36 oversized photographs representing the tramway years from 1861 to 1959, making up the exhibit’s first segment on the walls of the walkway at Place-des-Arts metro station. The second segment will be installed around mid-May.
