When you think of Bob Evans you think of sausage and restaurants but this coming weekend if you visit the 43rd annual Bob Evans Farm Festival at the Bob Evans Homestead in Rio Grande, Ohio, you can experience some family-friendly farm fun while you celebrate the harvest season. It is approximately a 4 hour drive from Cleveland to Rio Grande.
Bob Evans Farm Festival Attended each year by more than 30,000 people, this year's Bob Evans Farm Festival takes place on Friday, October 11, Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
The Festival offers a multitude of activities and demonstrations for visitors including wagon rides, horseback rides, a pedal tractor pull, soap making, horseshoe pitching, sorghum making and a craft show.
There will also be a lumberjack show, sheep shearing, cow milking, chainsaw carving, border collie herding, an antique tractor display, a quilting bee and tractor square dancing.
For the kids, activities include a hay bale maze, a game tent, a straw castle, a corn pile and kiddie barrel train rides.
Entertainment will be provided by various bluegrass, country and gospel groups. A star attraction will be a performance by country recording artist John Conlee. Tickets to the John Conlee concert are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.
Once a stagecoach stop and inn and now on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Homestead Museum (the old brick farmhouse where Bob Evans and his family lived for 20 years) will be open for tours. Guests can also visit the first Bob Evans restaurant.
A Special Historical Note: Bob Evans started out in 1948 with a 12- stool diner. He couldn't find a sausage product that he liked for his menu so he decided to produce his own. His original restaurant was called The Sausage Shop. There are now more than 560 Bob Evans family restaurants in 18 states.
Food will be available for purchase including lots of Bob Evans' signature sausage.
Hours for the Bob Evans Farm Festival are 10:30 a.m - 5:30 p.m. all three days. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children (6-18). Children 5 and under are free.
