Aida Bistro - Tamar Alexia Fleishman
This year, Howard County, Maryland is celebrating Restaurant Week with a twist: by highlighting restaurants and menus that get produce and meats from local farms. There are lots of reasons to eat locally, including reducing carbon footprints, getting fresher and more nutritious foods, and eating food at the height of its flavor.
Aida Bistro in Columbia is family owned by the Barberas. Any given night, you're likely to be greeted as family by 3 generations working there. Located in an unassuming strip mall -- get directions off the web site! -- you are transported to another world once you step in. The cuisine is Italian-Mediterranean bistro fare, with all the sauces and pastas made on premise. Many of the recipes are from Joe Barbera's mom.
The owners make a real effort to support very local -- Howard County and Frederick County -- purveyors. They grow the mint for their Mojitos out back! You'll find local cheese, fruits, wines, and veggies on their menu, including the prix-fixe menu that's available during Restaurant Weeks, from July 27 - Aug. 9. Check out details at www.aidabistro.com , because when you're serving the freshest and best, the menu changes!
