Since St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, Fargo-Moorhead will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2013 with a weekend full of festivities that will appeal to families, music lovers, foodies, pub crawlers and everyone in between. Here are five best bets for the 2013 St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Fargo-Moorhead.

St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl
Saturday, March 16

St. Patrick's Day weekend starts bright and early on the morning of Saturday, March 16 with Kegs and Eggs at The Pickled Parrot at 10 a.m. followed by the pub crawl at 11 a.m. In addition to The Pickled Parrot, numerous other bars and restaurants will be participating, including The Bomb Shelter, The Old Broadway, Rhombus Guys, Rooter’s Bar, Sidestreet Grille and Pub, Sports Bar, Monte’s Downtown, Mahoney’s Bar and Grill and Spicy Pie.

Participants can purchase an official mug and passport at any participating bar for $5. The initial fee includes the first fill and $3 refills are available at all participating locations. Each bar will offer a passport stamp and participants with completed passports will be eligible to receive a St. Patty's Day Pub Crawl medal at The Old Broadway, while supplies last. While purchasing or consuming alcohol is not required, all participants must be 21 years old to take part in the festivities.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saturday, March 16

Downtown Fargo’s definitive spring event returns Saturday, March 16 with floats, music and plenty of candy for the little ones. The parade will start at the intersection of NP Avenue and Broadway at 3 p.m. and will continue north at a leisurely pace. Parade-goers are encouraged to line up early on either side of the Broadway for the best views.

No parking is available on Broadway, but the side streets are open and there’s free parking in city lots. Be sure to budget extra time before and after the parade to find parking, soak up the celebratory atmosphere and explore some of Downtown Fargo's many shops and restaurants.

Dempsey's Public House
Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17

Dempsey’s Public House is a St. Patrick's Day favorite, both after the parade and all weekend long. The beloved Downtown Fargo bar kicks off their St. Patrick's Day 2013 festivities with free chocolate doughnuts, beads, prizes and green beer, which will be available Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and Sunday at Noon. Dempsey’s also offers corned beef, cabbage and all the fixings for $8, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday.

Live music fans will love local favorite, Poitin. The band's mix of Irish and Celtic jigs and reels and rabble-rousing dance numbers and drinking songs attracts a loyal mix of old timers, hipsters and fresh faced college kids. They will play three shows at Dempsey’s during St. Patrick’s Day weekend, including a show right after the parade on Saturday afternoon. The band will also take the stage at 10 p.m. on Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday.

FM Derby Girls Double Header
Saturday, March 16

Roller Derby at the Fargo Civic Center in Downtown Fargo offers the best of both worlds for St. Patrick's Day 2013 -- a raucous atmosphere with plenty of drama and cold adult beverages that also manages to be colorful, fun and family-friendly for the little ones.

Saturday, March 16 promises a battle of mythic proportions as the FMDG Banshees take on the Forx Roller Derby Syrens from Grand Forks, ND and the FMDG Northern Pains duke it out against the Harbor City Roller Dames from Duluth, MN. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the ladies hit the track at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students with a valid college ID, $7 for youth and free for children under 5. Tickets are available at the Civic Center Box office from Noon – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, at the door starting at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the event and at ticketmaster.com.

O’Kelly’s
Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17

For serious eaters and drinkers who want good food and cold drinks without a lot of fuss, O’Kelly’s is a must. The spacious bar offers a full menu, gaming options, plenty of televisions and a host of passionate regulars who like to settle in and enjoy themselves for the long haul.

Foodies will love the corned beef, cabbage and parsley buttered potatoes for $6.50, served on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Sunday at noon until their supplies run out.

Those that want to stop in for a few drinks will appreciate the ample parking, the green beer and the specials -- Irish Car Bombs and Jameson are $6 and 2 Gingers Whiskey drinks are $4. If patrons have a few too many on St. Patrick's Day 2013 -- or any day that O'Kelly's is open, for that matter -- the bar will partner with Sober Drive to get their customers and their cars home safely for just $10.
