Celebrate ragtime music at Greenfield Village' s annual Ragtime Street Fair

There will be dancing in the streets and Cleveland history buffs are invited to join the fun at Greenfield Village's 8th annual Ragtime Street Fair on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 in Dearborn, Michigan near Detroit. It is approximately a 2.5 hour journey for Cleveland drivers.

Ragtime Street Fair Located at The Henry Ford Museum complex, Greenfield Village is a living history museum and historic village comprised of 80 authentic, historic structures stretched over 80 acres. The Street Fair will be a celebration of the early 20th century's Ragtime era. All staff members will be dressed in Ragtime-era apparel.

When one thinks of ragtime, one usually immediately thinks of the music of the era and songs like Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" and "Maple Leaf Rag." If you love ragtime music you won't be disappointed. Scores of musicians will be performing on various stages throughout Greenfield Village during the Street Fair. Dancing in the street is encouraged.

Among the performers and groups will be "Perfessor" Bill Edwards, ragtime pianist Taslimah Bey, Jerry Perrine, John Remmers and the River Raisin Ragtime Revue.

Activities at this family-friendly, educational event include dance demonstrations and instruction and be sure to catch the Piano Cutting Contest (where pianists show off their talent in a high-energy competition.

Guests will be able to participate in the Cake Walk, a traditional dance competition where the winner "takes the cake."

There will be plenty of food available for purchase at the Ragtime Street Fair including hot buttered corn-on-the-cob, cherry chicken sausage with red onion marmalade and hot fried dough topped with ice cream.

All activities at the Ragtime Street Fair are free with regular admission to Greenfield Village. Tickets are $24 for adults, $22 for seniors (62+) and $17.50 for children (5-12). Children 4 and under are free. Admission for Museum Members is free. There is also a $5 parking fee for non-members. Admission entitles you to enjoy all parts of Greenfield Village during the Street Fair.

Greenfield Village will be open from 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. On Sunday, July 13 hours are 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
