Celebrate Oktoberfest at Santa Anita Park Saturday Oct. 12

Santa Anita Park and Dog Haus have teamed up to throw a big Oktoberfest party this Saturday, October 12, from noon to 7 p.m.

At the Park’s infield, which lately has hosted everything from family festivals to classical music concerts, you can expect to see beer this Saturday, and lots of it, since 28 German and craft beer breweries will be featured, including Golden Road, New Belgium, Stone, Epic, Bootleggers, Speakeasy and Angel City. And there will be lots of food, of course. Authentic German delights by Santa Anita Chef Eric Maranowski, as well as gourmet dogs and sausages by Dog Haus.

Because Oktoberfest is not complete without music, the celebration at Santa Anita Park will include the Bavarian Wunderband and The Spazmatics--plus a special appearance by Boogie Knights.

Bavarian Wunderband is a six-piece combo, decked in gorgeous German costumes, which will perform authentic German oom-pah band favorites and even conduct an Alpenhorn blowing competition. The Spazmatics will help you get your groove on with their 80’s new wave beats, and Boogie Knights, a disco revival show, will do its magic to make you dance.

You could also use some of the time to learn about horse racing, or perhaps even try out your luck, as Santa Anita’s MC José Contreras will be on hand to assist anyone in need with racing terminology and the betting booths as everyone gets to watch a giant live video feed of the races in real time.

If you are the competing type, you’ll have a chance to participate in the corn toss competition, the stein holding contest, or a costume contest with categories including child, traditional man and woman, sexiest man and woman and new school.

Your children can have fun too in the family friendly activity zone that will include a visit with Seabiscuit, pony rides, face painting, a bounce house, a photo booth and more.

General admission to the infield is $5.00. Attendees dressed in German attire will have the general admission fee waived.

The Oktoberfest Package can be purchased online for $25.00 (valued at $50.00) at using promo code GERMAN. It includes admission, racing program, tip sheet, souvenir Oktoberfest stein, two 12 oz. complimentary beers and an authentic German pretzel.

The VIP Oktoberfest Package can be purchased online for only $50.00 (valued at $100.00) at using promo code GERMAN.
