Northeast Ohio is one of the premier winemaking and grape- producing regions in the country with the Geneva area (located along the shores of Lake Erie) being home to more than 1500 acres of growing grapes.
Clevelanders get the opportunity to celebrate the harvesting of the local grapes and honor the area's wine-producing and grape-growing industries at the 50th annual Grape Jamboree being held in Geneva on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29. Geneva is approximately 50 miles east of Cleveland.
Geneva Grape Jamboree Taking place on Geneva's Main Street, visitors to the Jamboree will be able to sample freshly squeezed grape juice in addition to wine and other grape products. Serving wines from Geneva-area wineries, the wine tasting will be located at the Geneva Community Center at 72 W. Main St. from 1 p.m - 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 28. Cost for the wine tasting is $10 and you will receive a souvenir tasting glass.
Participating wineries include Ferrante Winery, Grand River Cellars, Chalet Debonne Vineyards, Old Firehouse Winery, the Winery at Spring Hill, Old Mill Winery, Virant Family Winery and Emerine Estates.
There will be parades both days --- Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Other activities include a pie eating contest (Saturday at 5 p.m.), two pageants including the Miss Grapette pageant, a corn hole tournament (on Sunday), a baby contest, a car show (on Saturday), a craft fair featuring over 100 crafters, a tractor pull, an Art Show and the Great Grape Bake-Off.
A featured attraction (and always a big draw) will be the Grape Stomping Contest on both days. In addition to the adult competition ( 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday) there will also be a junior competition (Saturday at noon and Sunday at 12:45 p.m.). This is a sight you don't want to miss.
The Geneva Grape Jamboree will also feature free, live entertainment ( including the Jamboree Slovenian Dancers, an Elvis tribute artist, square dancers and various musical groups), plenty of food for purchase and amusement rides. All day wristbands for the rides are $14. A family strip of 24 rides is $20 and individual rides are $1. Admission to the Grape Jamboree is free.
